Absolutely not。 Queen of plot twists here。 Anyways, I think this book spent a lot of time with world-building and character-building rather than the plot itself。 Which I’m fine with (to a certain extent)。 But I think this was its biggest downfall。 It felt really slow at times and I kind of just wanted things to have more action。 Despite the slow pacing of the plot, I actually really loved our characters。 We got Cor, the reluctant Chosen One who doesn’t really know what the hell is going on half the time。 We got Dom, an immortal (also called Verda) who needs to state that he’s a prince of Iona every time he’s introduced。 We got Sorasa (my favorite character!!), a badass assassin who reminds me of Inej from the Shadow and Bone trilogy and Jace from the Mortal Instrument series (anyone else agree?)。 We got Andry, a kind-hearted soft boi knight。 Finally, we got Erida, a power hungry queen。 There are some minor characters in there, but these are the main perspectives we get。 Oh, and we also get Ridha, Dom’s cousin who is trying to secure allies for Dom by travelling the world to speak to different rulers。 We don’t get much of her, but I assume we’ll see her play a bigger role in the upcoming books。 Also, really enjoyed the bantering between Dom and Sorasa, haha。 The world itself was very interesting。 So in this book, there are Spindles, which are basically gateways/bridges to other realms。 No one really uses them anymore, unless one day, our villain (Taristan—uncle to Cor) is like “hey, let’s open these bad boys up because I support What Waits (another villain that we, as in the readers, don’t really know much about)。 He wants to wreck havoc? I’m down。” (Also, side note: I’m interested in learning more about why Taristan is the way he is and how he got this this place。 He seems to have this hatred towards his twin brother’s (Cor’s dad) upbringing, so I wonder how that will work out。) So, Dom and Andry (and the Companions--basically the group of people who tried to stop Taristan) try to stop him。 They fail。 Dom (recruiting Sorasa) eventually find Cor—the last person of the Spindleblood line, with the goal to shut down all the Spindles by having Cor use the Spindlesword to do so (which only people with Spindleblood can use)。 How this exactly happens, we don’t get a lot of details because again, Cor doesn’t even know what’s going on。 She’s building the bike as she rides it。 There are runes on it, but we don’t know what they mean (yet)。 Somehow, Dom (who had the sword in the first place), Valtik (a witch who isn’t really that helpful because she speaks in riddles all the time), Sigil (a bounty hunter), and Charlie (a。。。 what is he, actually? A criminal? Someone with an interesting background? Someone who can forge papers!) get involved somehow in this big old mess。 Other minor characters: Ronin (Taristan's wizard friend) and Konegin (Erida's cousin)。 Also, I heard that this book has some elements of LOTR in it, but I never read it (sorry, sue me) so I didn’t get any references。 In terms of romance, we don’t get much of it。 The author tends to be a slow burn romance kind of writer, so I didn’t expect much。 I think there are hints to what the relationships might be。 Also, Sorasa gives me big D and bi-sexual vibes, WHICH I AM HERE FOR。 PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME。 This book ends with a small cliffhanger (surprised, surprise)。 (view spoiler)[Basically, the crew (aka Cor) ends up closing the second Spindle after getting attacking at an oasis by monsters。 She ends up fainting into the darkness。 Taristan and Erida find out and they’re like “shit, she’s going to be a problem。 Alright, we gotta take her out。” (hide spoiler)] I don’t think it was a bad ending。 I kind of was expecting more, but I’m definitely interested in seeing what happens。 Overall, not a bad book。 Will I continue with the series? Probably。 Would I recommend this book? Yes。 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley for an arc for Realm Breaker! A gripping quest fantasy, set in a very well-constructed and richly layered world, led by characters I loved。 I didn't realise quite how much I was craving a doorstopper that wasn't at all focused on romance。 You can see Victoria Aveyard is sowing the seeds for some really compelling relationships, but to have this first instalment be primarily about the adventure, the friendships – it was refreshing, and appreciated。 A gripping quest fantasy, set in a very well-constructed and richly layered world, led by characters I loved。 I didn't realise quite how much I was craving a doorstopper that wasn't at all focused on romance。 You can see Victoria Aveyard is sowing the seeds for some really compelling relationships, but to have this first instalment be primarily about the adventure, the friendships – it was refreshing, and appreciated。 。。。more

~I received an arc from netgalley~This was interesting! This had really great worldbuilding and I really liked the characters and how the characters interacted with each other I loved the dialogue, especially Corayne's she had this very dry humor, like bad stuff happens and she's just like 'well okay then'。 I also liked how Aveyard made the "main character" not this all powerful being, because really, she's just a teenager and I think that sometimes that's important in YA books, because yes you ~I received an arc from netgalley~This was interesting! The book itself is just very dense in information。 。。。more

I don't know。。。Realm Breaker is Victoria Aveyard's start to a new young adult fantasy series。 I became intrigued from these buzzwords: pirate's daughter, assassin, end of the world and an immortal。 I didn't read too much of the synopsis because I wanted to know the bare minimum。 So I'm going to give you a very brief overview so you get a basic idea of this story。Realm Breaker is a young adult fantasy following six perspectives (I think)。 This is very much a journey story。 In this world there are a magical people whose population has declined over generations, there are other realms where various things live, called Spindles and of course we have good and evil。 There is a bit of a chosen one trope, but not exactly。 Our "chosen one" is found by an unlikely pair of an assassin and a grumpy immortal prince and they have to help the "chosen one" save their world, essentially。 They are also joined by a royal squire, a witch, and some other shady people, it's quite interesting。 I say "chosen one" in quotes but they really aren't, they're more like their last hope because no one wants to help save the realm and so this group of randoms are the ones who have to try。 I said this book is a journey story because at first a few members of the party have to travel to get to the "chosen one" and then they all journey somewhere else。。。and then somewhere else, but with a lot happening in between。 I will say that I am a hard sell on journey stories but I will say that Victoria didn't spend too much time on the actual time spent on the road, because that can become tedious。 What I liked:-For a YA story, there was minimal romance, FINALLY! Don't get me wrong, there is a marriage in the story but it is not for love, LOL。 Also, there are whispers, hints of a possible romance in the future but it is far from the central plot。 AMEN-The "chosen one" doesn't all of a sudden know everything。 They aren't magically the best swords person or have all the right answers。 They're learning throughout the entire book and I was a fan。-I thought the writing was nice。 Not too simplistic but not too flowery。-I felt the world building was added in naturally。 We learned a lot about the world through different character's perspectives as they're arriving to these new places, talking about their homelands and also in the adventures they get into in those places。 -Did I mention the romance aspect wasn't the center of the story? I can't get over how happy I am about that。-Again with this being a young adult novel, usually, most of the main characters are very young。 However, we have two of the MCs who are younger 19-20 ish, an old immortal man, and a 30 ish year old assassin, an old witch and then mid 20s-30s shady characters。 Love that because it doesn't all feel so "young" ya know? What I didn't like:-This is a personal thing but long chapters。 I hate long chapters, they really don't need to be more than 10 pages。 20 page chapters be killing me!!-Not enough character development especially for the length of the book。 At first I was ok with the little we knew about the characters but as it went on, I wanted less about the journey and more on the characters。 Hopefully that is something that becomes more developed in the second book。-To continue on the character part, I love me a "rag tag team of people" get together for a mission/found family and this SHOULD be that but the characters and their relationships are developed enough yet for me to feel that。 But, I feel that in the second book, hopefully, we get to know them better, their relationships get deeper and I can get all those found family feels。-The assassin isn't doing a lot of assassinating, y'all know how I feel about that LOL。Random notes: I thought this was going to be a pirate's daughter who was going to like take over a pirate ship to save the world? LMAO, NO。 She is the daughter of a pirate but that doesn't have that much to do with the story。 This story does take place on both land and sea but not really because of pirates。 Victoria said in the letter to readers in the ARC that she was inspired by stories like LOTR, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Zelda and I can see where some of those aspects are in this story。 LOTR because we do have a group of people traveling the realm to try and save it。 But, in my opinion, it gave me a Faithful and The Fallen by John Gwynne vibes also because of the multiple characters, their journey, multiple POVs, old immortal kinda mentor character, realm where evil exists and trying to save the world from it。 Anyway, if any of this review made sense and intrigued you, I'd recommend it。 I will definitely read the next book whenever that comes out。*also also, I have never read her Red Queen series so I can't say if this is better but I'm gonna just say that it is, LOL* 。。。more

You know those books where you spend the majority of the time just confused but you keep reading because the whole time you are like "yup fair enough。" Like sure I don't understand it but you're like “okay I believe you。” That's this book。 You have to be willing to trust Victoria because this world, the magic system, everything about it, is so new and complicated that I was just like -- okay girl I am trusting you on this。。。 bring me home。 AND SHE DID。。。answer like 2/50000 questions lmao! There are a lot of words and language in this book that you just have to accept and keep moving。 Some I can get behind, some I had trouble with。 This world is VERY VERY detailed and the characters talk as if we know what the hell is going on。 A lot of my questions about the lore itself got answered closer to the end of the book so you just have to trust the process lol Now, this book is ALL world-building。 Like all world-building。 We were world-building in the last chapter kinda world-building。 Now, I am going to be honest, I am not a huge fan of books like that but it's also a high fantasy so I expected it。 What I didn't expect was how much the world-building aspect would interfere with the character building。 There are 8 million POVs in this book (really like 6 or 7) but still, it was too much for me。 I honestly spent most of this book kind of frustrated BECAUSE I wasn't getting attached to the characters -- well except for Dom (I mean who doesn't love a moody immortal?!)。 HOWEVER AND ALTHOUGH, when I tell you that I was like 150 pages from the end and I read this one chapter, I was like OH MY GOD I KNOW WHY SHE IS DOING THIS HOLY CRAP VICTORIA IS SO SMART AND SO TALENTED THIS IS WHY SHE WROTE LIKE THIS。 It changed the entire perspective of the book for me。 I was prepared to give this a pretty low rating (which I was so sad about because I love her!) and the last 200 pages just flipped this whole thing around for me。 I KNOW IN MY BONES that books 2 and 3 are going to be INSANE now that she has set up this world。 Reflecting on the book now, I am in love。 When it all clicked into place for me I was so happy I think I started crying because I wanted to love this book so badly and I am so happy I do! The world has so much depth to it, I can see it behind my eyes when I read (and that honestly doesn't happen too often)。 The characters are so diverse and their personalities are all so different that when there is dialogue, it is so engaging! I said it once and I am saying it again, I freaking love Dom。 I know this was a ramble but I just wanted to share all of my feelings!! PLEASE GO BUY THIS BOOK WHEN IT COMES OUT ON MAY 4TH!! I promise it's worth it。 With that, I will leave you with one final teaser。 You will leave this book not knowing if you are rooting for the good guys or the bad because while I want the realm to be saved。。。 there is a part of me that is cheering for the villains to conquer the world。 。。。more

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 I am writing this review after reading 1/3 of the book。 That’s all I could manage and have set it aside for now。 (Maybe I’ll pick it up later, but I honestly don’t know。) This book is DENSE- lots and lots of world building with complex names。 At this point in the story I still don’t know what Spindles are though they’re referenced often, it’s never in a way that the reader can actually understand what they are。 The book is writte I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 I am writing this review after reading 1/3 of the book。 That’s all I could manage and have set it aside for now。 (Maybe I’ll pick it up later, but I honestly don’t know。) This book is DENSE- lots and lots of world building with complex names。 At this point in the story I still don’t know what Spindles are though they’re referenced often, it’s never in a way that the reader can actually understand what they are。 The book is written from multiple POV, which I usually enjoy。 My issue with it this time is that the chapter starts with someone’s POV who hasn’t been introduced in the book yet so you have zero idea who or where this person is when you start the chapter。 I’m disappointed because I was so excited to read this book because of all the hype。 I will come back and edit this review if I ever decide to pick the book back up and finish it。 。。。more

3。5 starsI enjoyed the start of V。A。's new series。 There was a huge info dump and somewhat of a confusing set-up in the beginning but the plot was interesting enough to move past this。"A strange darkness grows in Allward。 Even Corayne an-Amarat can feel it, tucked away in her small town at the edge of the sea。 She soon discovers the truth: She is the last of an ancient lineage—and the last hope to save the world from destruction。 But she won’t be alone。 Together they stand against a vicious oppo 3。5 starsI enjoyed the start of V。A。's new series。 There was a huge info dump and somewhat of a confusing set-up in the beginning but the plot was interesting enough to move past this。"A strange darkness grows in Allward。 Even Corayne an-Amarat can feel it, tucked away in her small town at the edge of the sea。 She soon discovers the truth: She is the last of an ancient lineage—and the last hope to save the world from destruction。 But she won’t be alone。 Together they stand against a vicious opponent, invincible and determined to burn all kingdoms to ash, and an army unlike anything the realm has ever witnessed。"At times the plot moved far too slowly and there wasn't enough action。 This wouldn't matter if the characters actually DID ANYTHING during these slow times, but they didn't。 The writing is good, but I didn't feel immersed in this world the way I like to be when I read fantasy novels。 I'm interested to see where this series goes!Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy。 。。。more

What an adventure this book is! I will admit, I was insanely confused for the first part of this book and all of the information thrown at you right away, but after I found my footing, I enjoyed it much more。 This book has everything you could want in a fantasy, and I love the medieval vibes! Those who manage to stick with it will enjoy this very much, I think。 Excited to see where this goes!

What an amazing start to a new epic adventure! The group is all so different but determined to save the kingdom。 I’m not a big fan of Erida but at the same time I get where she is coming from even if I don’t agree。 But I love Corayne, Dom, Sorasa, Andry, and even Valtik! I seriously cannot wait for RB2 and cannot wait to see where this adventure leads
